Xtra Time Web Desk:The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has announced the final list of 117 athletes who will represent India at the Paris Olympics 2024. This contingent has been approved by the sports ministry and will be supported by 140 members of support staff. Notably, 72 of these support personnel will receive government funding to meet the athletes' needs.

A significant omission from the list is shot putter Abha Kathua, who had qualified for the Olympics through the world ranking quota. No explanation has been provided for her exclusion, which follows her name missing from World Athletics' list of Olympic participants a few days earlier.

The athletics team will lead the Indian contingent with 29 athletes, including 11 women and 18 men. The shooting team follows with 21 members, and the hockey team comprises 19 players.

In a statement, the sports ministry outlined the permissible limit for the stay of support personnel in the Games Village, which is set at 67, including 11 IOA Contingent Officials and five Medical Team Members. Additional coaches and support staff, numbering 72, have been approved at government expense, with arrangements made for their stay in hotels or locations outside the Games Village.

India's representation across various sports includes eight table tennis players and seven badminton players, including two-time Olympic medallist P.V. Sindhu. Wrestling, archery, and boxing each have six representatives. Golf will feature four participants, and tennis will have three. Sailing and swimming will each see two Indian competitors, while equestrian, judo, rowing, and weightlifting will each have one participant.

In the Tokyo Olympics 2020, India sent a 119-member contingent and achieved its best-ever haul of seven medals, including a historic gold by javelin star Neeraj Chopra.
