Xtra Time Web Desk:  Australia's senior batter Steve Smith has praised Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, calling him the best all-format bowler in the world. Speaking on Star Sports ahead of the much-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Smith highlighted Bumrah’s ability to challenge batters with both the new and old ball.

The five-Test series between India and Australia is set to begin in Perth on November 22. India, having won the last two Test series in Australia, will be aiming for a historic three-peat. Much of their hopes will rest on Bumrah’s shoulders, whose rare skills will be critical on Australian pitches.

"He's a wonderful bowler, whether I face him with the new ball, slightly older ball, or even the old ball. He's got great skills with all of them," Smith said. "He's arguably the best fast bowler across the three formats. It's always going to be a challenge."

Smith, 35, who has been opening for Australia in recent series, is expected to continue in that role against India. With 9,685 Test runs to his name, the veteran is closing in on the 10,000-run milestone, but he will need to be at his best against a formidable Indian attack.

Bumrah, since his Test debut in January 2018, has taken 164 wickets in 37 matches at an impressive average of 20.51. His performances in Australia have been particularly noteworthy, with 32 wickets from seven matches at an average of 21.25. Known for his ability to outsmart batters with the old ball, Bumrah has been crucial to India's success in recent years.

Although India fell short in the 2023 ODI World Cup on home soil, Bumrah played a pivotal role in securing the T20 World Cup 2024 title in Barbados. With the upcoming series, he will be once again expected to lead India’s bowling attack in challenging Australian conditions.
