Xtra Time Web Desk: Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah delivered a stellar performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, leaving a lasting impact with his record-breaking bowling display. Bumrah claimed 32 wickets in the series, surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi’s record for the most wickets by an Indian pacer in a Test series against Australia.

Following the conclusion of the series in Sydney, Australia’s Usman Khawaja paid glowing tribute to Bumrah during a post-match interview. Khawaja humorously thanked God that he wouldn’t have to face Bumrah again, reflecting on how challenging it was to deal with the Indian pacer’s lethal spells.

The veteran Australian batter, who has over 5600 Test runs, admitted that Bumrah offered no opportunities to score runs, especially with the new ball. Khawaja acknowledged Bumrah’s absence on Day 3 of the final Test, which allowed Australia to chase down the target in just 27 overs.

"I was just getting Bumrah'd. It was tough work. I have to face this guy with the new ball every single time. You never want to see anyone injured, and it's a shame he was, but thank God for us. Today would've been an absolute nightmare facing him on that wicket," said Khawaja.

Describing Bumrah as the toughest bowler he has ever faced, Khawaja highlighted the pacer’s growth since their encounters in 2018. "He’s the toughest bowler I’ve ever faced. He was good then, but he has been something else this year. He has got his tail up," he added.

Khawaja attributed Bumrah’s success not only to the spicy wickets but also to his maturity and tactical approach. "The wickets have definitely helped him. He is 6 years more mature. He understands his skills, who he is bowling to. He has different plans for everyone," Khawaja explained.

Expressing relief, Khawaja concluded, "I don’t have to face him again, thank God."
