Xtra Time Web Desk: In a high-intensity clash at the Kalinga Stadium, Odisha FC secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over East Bengal FC in their latest Indian Super League (ISL) match on October 22, 2024. The result handed East Bengal their sixth consecutive defeat in the competition, further compounding their troubles this season.

The game kicked off with East Bengal on the front foot, creating several early chances. However, it was Odisha who struck first in the 22nd minute through Roy Krishna, who capitalized on a perfectly timed through ball from Isak. The Fijian forward kept his composure and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Prabhsukhan Gill to give the home side a 1-0 lead.

Just before halftime, East Bengal found a way back into the match. A handball in the box by Thoiba Singh resulted in a penalty, and Dimitrios Diamantakos stepped up to convert it, leveling the score at 1-1 at the stroke of halftime.

The second half saw Odisha take control once again. In the 69th minute, Mourtada Fall rose highest to meet a beautifully floated free-kick by Ahmed Jahouh, heading the ball past Gill to restore Odisha’s lead. The visitors' chances of a comeback took a hit when Provat Lakra was sent off for a poor tackle on Jahouh in the 76th minute, leaving East Bengal with 10 men for the remainder of the match.

Despite a late surge and a few close chances, East Bengal couldn't find the equalizer, and Odisha held on to their lead, clinching the victory.

With this win, Odisha FC continues to climb the table, while East Bengal’s search for their first win of the season continues as they languish at the bottom.
