ISL 2024-25: Mohun Bagan crush Mohammedan SC 4-0 in Kolkata derby to extend lead at ISL summit
Xtra Time Web Desk: Mohun Bagan Super Giant delivered a commanding performance, defeating city rivals Mohammedan SC 4-0 at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata in the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season on Saturday.
Braces from Subhasish Bose and Manvir Singh powered the Mariners past Mohammedan SC, extending their lead at the top of the table. With 43 points, they now hold a comfortable 10-point gap over second-placed FC Goa (33 points). Goalkeeper Vishal Kaith also made history, becoming the first shot-stopper to register 50 ISL clean sheets.

The Mariners started aggressively, pushing Mohammedan SC’s defense early on. Their persistence paid off in the 12th minute when Liston Colaco’s corner led to a goal. Jamie Maclaren controlled the ball before setting up Dippendu Biswas, whose shot found Subhasish Bose in the right place to slot home his fifth goal of the season. 1-0.
In the 20th minute, Manvir Singh doubled the advantage with a precise header off Jason Cummings' near-post corner, leaving goalkeeper Padam Chhetri with no chance. 2-0.
Mohun Bagan SG continued to dominate and nearly added a third when Cummings, playing a creative role, squared the ball to Maclaren, but Florent Ogier intercepted just in time. Mohammedan SC’s Carlos Franca tried to make an impact, but the Mariners’ defense neutralized the threats.

The third goal came in the 43rd minute from a free-kick delivery by Cummings. Maclaren’s deft touch set up Bose, who found the net again. 3-0.
Just before halftime, Mohammedan SC’s Mirjalol Kasimov saw red after kicking Tom Aldred in frustration, further denting the hosts’ hopes.
In the second half, Alexis Gomez came close with a free-kick, and Manvir almost pounced on a fumble by Padam. Eventually, in the 53rd minute, Manvir sealed the game with a header from Cummings’ perfect cross. 4-0.
Jose Molina made substitutions, bringing on Dimitrios Petratos and Abhishek Suryavanshi, as Mohun Bagan SG continued to control the game. Despite multiple chances, they couldn’t add to the scoreline but secured their 13th win of the season and an 11th clean sheet, maintaining their dominant form in the ISL.
