Xtra Time Web Desk: Mohammedan SC’s wait for their maiden ISL victory continues, as a stoppage-time goal from FC Goa’s Armando Sadiku held them to a 1-1 draw at Kishore Bharati Stadium on Saturday. Despite taking the lead through Alexis’ penalty, the Black and White Brigade conceded late, repeating a familiar heartbreak from their previous match.

Coached by Andrey Chernyshov, Mohammedan SC once again showcased their potential in the ISL, playing an impressive, cohesive game against an established FC Goa side. Chernyshov’s tactical approach, blending quick attacks and solid defensive organization, continued to prove that the gap between ISL and I-League players is narrower than perceived. His team’s performance sent a strong message to India’s national coach and Goa’s head coach, Manolo Márquez.

The match started with FC Goa dominating the first 15 minutes, but Mohammedan quickly found their rhythm. Utilizing both wings and short passes to penetrate Goa’s defense, Mohammedan looked threatening, with Carlos França, Alexis, and Remsanga leading sharp attacks. Despite several chances, they failed to convert, leaving the score 0-0 at halftime.

The breakthrough came in the 65th minute when França was fouled in the box, earning Mohammedan a penalty. Alexis stepped up and calmly slotted it home, giving the Kolkata side a 1-0 lead. However, as the game progressed, Goa launched a series of relentless attacks, and Mohammedan’s defense began to falter under pressure. In stoppage time, former Mohun Bagan forward Armando Sadiku found the back of the net, rescuing a point for Goa and denying Mohammedan a historic ISL victory.

Despite the setback, Mohammedan’s rise from the I-League to the ISL has drawn comparisons to Punjab FC, who have stunned the league with two wins in as many matches. Chernyshov’s side seems determined to follow a similar path, signaling their intent to compete for the championship, not just participate.
