Xtra Time Web Desk: Reigning World Cup champions France became the first team from Group D to reach the last 16 stage in FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar following their 2-0 win against Denmark at Stadium 974 on Saturday. Star striker Kylian Mbappe scored both the goals (61’ & 86’) for France. Andreas Cristensen was on target for Danes in the 68th minute.

Didier Deschamps' side were made to work hard for the win by the dogged Danes, but this was another strong display from the reigning champions. Mbappe moves clear at the top of the scoring charts with three goals.

Mbappe gave France the lead on 61 minutes with a quick shot from Theo Hernandez’s cut-back. Andreas Christensen restored parity for Denmark from a Joachim Andersen corner five minutes later. Mbappe was again on target in the 86th minute. The 23-year-old now has 7 goals at the World Cup Finals, two more than both Zidane and Platini.

In another Group D fixture Australia registered their first ever win in World Cup in 12 years. The Socceroos defeated Tunisia by 1-0 margin, thanks to a header from Mitchell Duke in the 23rd minute at Al Janoub stadium.
