CFL 2017: What is the special record East Bengal's VP Suhair achieved today?
Kolkata: Kingfisher East Bengal got a huge boost in their first game of the season, as the defending CFL champions found a big solution in their striking line up as the youngster from Palakkar, Kerala played some outstanding football to name himself to an elite group of footballers who scored hat-tricks on the opening day of the league.

In 1963, Ashim Moulik scored a hat-trick for East Bengal in the opening game, Shyam Thapa did the same in the 1966, Bikash Narzary repeated that in 2010 annd it's VP Suhair who did it in this season today. East Bengal coach Khalid Jamil too is happy with the way his team had played. He said, "The team performed extremely well. This start was crucial. He added, "But the defence made a small error today. But I am hopeful."

Meanwhile, it was told earlier that both Arnab Mondal and Mohammad Rafique would be leaving for the national camp and won't be available for the first game of the CFL. But official Debabrata Sarkar said, "I personally called Mr Kushal Das of The AIFF and requested him so that he allows them to play the first game. We are happy that he allowed them to stay back for the first game."
