Internet Desk: Former ICC elite panel umpire Daryl Harper has criticized Indian captain MS Dhoni and asked him to follow Brendon McCullum’s sportsmanship. Dhoni had earlier sarcastically joked about umpires using earpieces. Daryl Harper said, “If he’s not happy, I would urge MS to adopt the practice that Brendon McCullum has developed very successfully during his tenure as New Zealand’s captain.”
After the Pakistan match Dhoni had said,” I don’t want to get banned before the World T20. The umpiring, you’ve all seen it yourself. The umpires have an ear piece and Walkie-talkie. Effectively they are umpiring with just one ear.” In the match against Pakistan in the Asia Cup Pakistani Batsman Khurram Manzoor was declared not out after he tried to hit a Ashish Nehra delivery. He did get an edge but umpire Sis Saikat gave him not out.In the Indian innings too Virat Kohli was adjudged LBW after he clearly got an edge.
Daryl Harper and MS Dhoni have never been good friends. In the 2011 test series between India and West Indies Harper was heavily criticized for his decisions. Dhoni had been raising the issue about how modern day umpires were giving decisions using only one ear.Earlier Harper had asked ICC to punish Dhoni during the India vs West Indies series but no steps had been taken.
Harper also added the Kiwis would always accepted the umpire’s decisions whether they are satisfied or not.
