Focus on spin as Rohit, Virat, Shubman, Surya practices this particular shot at nets | INDvsAUS

Debasis Sen, Nagpur: There was a particular shot most of the Indian batters were seen practicing at the nets against the spinners at the Vidharbha Cricket Association stadium on Monday. The Indian team management feels sweep and reverse sweep will be the best strategy to unsettle the likes of Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy. Mitchell Swepson and Ashton Agar. Most of the Indian betters – the likes of captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav practice playing the reverse sweep while they were batting at the nets.

After two days of intense training at the old VCA stadium in Civil Lines, the Indian team turned up for practice at the main stadium in Jamtha. Following the routine warm up drills the Indian players played a round of foot volley before diving into two groups for net session. The bigger group including captain Rohit Sharma, KL Rahul, Ravindra Jadeja, Ravichandran Ashwin, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, Umesh Yadav, KS Bharat and Jaydev Unadkat practiced on the wicket adjacent to the centre wicket while the other group comprising of Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan and Cheteshwar Pujara batted at the practice nets outside the main stadium.

Captain Rohit Sharma and Ravichandran Ashwin were the first to walk into the nets as they faced the likes of Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami along with Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and net bowler Sai Kishore. After batting for half an hour, they changed ends. Next to go into the nets was Ravindra Jadeja and Axar Patel. Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat was seen bowling together along with other net bowlers.

At the practice nets arena, Virat Kohli batted for almost forty minutes against the likes of Washington Sundar, Saurabh Kumar, Pulkit Narang and Jayant Yadav. Ishan Kishan too batted alongside Virat in another net. They were followed by Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav. It will be interesting who gets preferred for the first test match starting from Thursday, February 9.

Virat was in great mood while batting at the nets. The former Indian captain was seen involved in a fun banter with Ishan Kishan. He was also seen sharing a few tips to the left hander.

The next two practice sessions will give the team management a fair idea about the conditions before they decide on the final playing XI. But going by the practice session, it looks like the hosts will go in with five frontline bowlers. Whether it will be two pacer and three spinners or other way round , that will depend on the wicket on the morning of the test match.

As far as batting is concerned, the top four automatically picks themselves in the likes of Rohit, KL Rahul, Pujara and Virat. The team management will be in a dilemma to pick the No 5 batter. It will be a toss between Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill. The batter from Mumbai was seen having a long chat with batting coach Vikram Rathour.

Similarly, for the wicket-keepers post, KS Bharat seems to have a slight edge over Ishan Kishan. The practice session went for almost three and half hours The Indians will be back training in the afternoon on Tuesday.
