FIFA World Cup 2022: Youssef En-Nesyri strike sends Morocco in semis

Xtra Time Web Desk: A goal from Youssef En-Nesyri just before the break was enough for Morocco to beat Portugal as they sailed into the semi-final of FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Thumama stadium on Saturday.

Portugal dominated the ball, with Joao Felix being particularly lively in the final third but failing to find the back of the net on two occasions.

Morocco took the lead in 42nd minute, when En-Nesyri rose above Diogo Costa to head home after a precise Yahya Attiat-Allah cross into the box.

Bruno Fernandes came close to netting an equalizer before the break, when he tried to lob Bono but he was unlucky to hit the woodwork.

Fernando Santos brought on Cristiano Ronaldo and Joao Cancelo just six minutes into the second half and Portugal piled the pressure on Morocco.

Goncalo Ramos and Fernandes sent the ball just wide, with Bono pulling off an incredible save to deny Joao Felix with nine minutes to go.

Morocco were reduced 10 men in the second half’s stoppage time, as Walid Cheddira received two yellow cards in a space of just two minutes.

Portugal was unable to benefit from their numerical advantage, with Morocco sealing qualification to the semi-finals, where they will face the winner of the duel between France and England.
