Xtra Time Web Desk: Goals from Memphis Depay (10′), Daley Blind (46’) and Denzel Dumfries (81′) helped Netherlands thrash USA 3-1 in the pre-quarter match of FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Khalifa International Stadium on Saturday. Haji Wright (76’) pulled one back for USA. This is the fifth time the Netherlands are into the quarter final in their last six World Cups. Luis an Gaal’s side will now take on Argentina in the quarters at the Lusail Iconic Stadium on Friday, December 9.
Netherlands took the lead against the run of play through Memphis Depay in the 10th minute. It was the result of a move comprising of 20 passes with Dumfries cutting back to give a pass to Depay who made no mistake to put it back into the nets.
The Dutch extended the lead at the stroke of half time, when Daley Blind converted a measured centre from Dumfries.
USA pulled one goal back in the 76 th minute with Haji Wright scooping the ball up and over Noppert from Pulisic’s low cross.
Dumfries ended USA’s hopes of a dramatic turnaround when he tucked away a cross from Daley Blind in the 81st minute to seal the match 3-1.
Netherlands will now take on Argentina in the quarter final on December 9.
