FIFA World Cup 2022: Mathew Leckie strike gives Australia 1-0 win over Denmark as Socceroos seal a spot in Rd 16

Xtra Time Web Desk: A strike from Mathew Leckie in the60 th minute gave Australia a 1-0 win over Denmark in FIFA World Cup 2022 Group D fixture at the Al Janoud Stadium on Wednesday. The win saw the Socceroos qualify for the Round of 16 for the second time since 2006.  Australia joined France who were shocked by Tunisia 0-1.

Denmark dominated the first half but their inability to score left Australia on course to qualify until Tunisia took the lead against the world champions France through Wahbi Khazri. That goal saw the African nation climb to runners-up spot in Group D for moments until Leckie strike in the 60th minute as his shot found the back of the net past Kasper Schmeichel.

Australia have won consecutive World Cup matches for the first time, while progressing from the group stages of the competition for just the second time in six appearances.
