Exclusive: Mohun Bagan break their silence on Mehtab Hossain’s retirement plans after CFL

Suman Chakravorty:
Mohun Bagan Football Secretary Swapan Banerjee clears all the doubts on the future of star midfielder Mehtab Hossain in the forthcoming I-League. Mehtab himself stated a few days back that he doesn’t want to continue after the Calcutta Football League and want to bid goodbye to the beautiful game. But today, the Bagan football Secretary turned down all the possibilities of Mehtab’s retirement and said that the club will no way allow him to retire after the CFL.

Today, in an interaction with www.xtratime.in, Swapan Banerjee said, “We have no value of Mehtab’s wish for retirement. I signed Mehtab for the entire season and his class and wealth of experience will be crucial for Mohun Bagan in the I-League.”

Bagan’s Football Secretary also stated, “I’m least bothered about Mehtab’s statement. He will play in the I-League for Mohun Bagan, 200%.”

Mehtab, who joined Mohun Bagan this season from arch-rivals East Bengal this season, suddenly announced his retirement plans in the middle of the Calcutta Football League this season and said that he wants to give more time to his family. But the Mohun Bagan officials were determined that they won’t allow Mehtab to let that happen.

The Football Secretary made it clear, “I don’t know what’s his problems, neither I’m bothered to know. He might say whatever he thinks. He is a Mohun Bagan footballer and we have a full season contract with him. There is no question the club will permit him to retire at the halfway of the season. There are some professional ethics and I’m sure Mehtab knows the value of it.”

The Mohun Bagan fans to have flooded with requests to continue his football career with Mohun Bagan on his official Facebook page, Whatsapp texts and phone calls in the last few days, and Mohun Bagan Football Secretary’s statement will no doubt be a sigh of relief.
