EURO 2020: Robert Lewandowski earns Poland a point against Spain as Gerard Moreno misses penalty

Xtra Time Web Desk: Spain was left frustrated as they were held to a 1-1 draw against Poland in EURO 2020 Group E clash at Seville on Saturday night. Despite taking the lead in the 25th minute through Alvaro Morata, Spain had to be content with a point after Gerard Moreno missed a penalty. Robert Lewandowski equalized for the Polish in the 54th minute from an exquisite header.

The Bayern Munich striker became the first Poland player to score at three European Championships.

Spain were handed the chance to restore their lead just three minutes later when Brighton midfielder Jakub Moder was penalized for stepping on Moreno inside the box. VAR showed that it was a genuine offence following which the referee signaled for a spot kick much to the joy of the home fans. Gerard Moreno’s shot beat the outstretched hands of Poland goalkeeper Szczesny to hit the post.

The draw meant Poland still has a glimmer of hope to qualify for Round 16. They are still at the bottom of Group E,                                                                                          a point and a place behind Spain, with everything play for in the final group game
