EPL : Leicester City reclaim top spot after win against Chelsea


Jamie-Vardy-01Leicester , December 15 : Leicester City’s fairytale run continues as they beat defending champion Chelsea 2-1 at Leicester. Two delightful strike from Jamie Vardy Riyad  Mahrez sent Leicester back to the top of the Premier League.

Jamie Vardy whose record goal scoring spree has come to an end at the last match against Swansea opened the scoring at the 34 minutes. He volleyed home past keeper Thibaut  Courtois  with a sublime cross from Mahrez. England striker Vardy (15) and Algerian Mahrez (11) now have 26 goals between them.Chelsea came close to a  equalizer, but Matic’s  header clipped the crossbar on its way behind for a goal kick. Algerian Mahrez Curled in a stunning second to double their lead. Leicester who avoided relegation last year now are on  top of the table with 35 points, two clear of Arsenal. Chelsea languishing at the bottom of the table in 16th place on 15 points from 16 games-one point above the relegation zone.

Victory was special for Leicester City coach Claudio Ranieri as he was sacked  by Chelsea in 2004. Ranieri had led   Chelsea top their highest league placing in 49 years. He also led them to their first Champions League Semifinal.  Substitute Loic Remy gave the visitors some hope with a header in the 77th minutes but Leicester held tightly to deny Chelsea from scoring the Equaliser. Add to Chelsea’s worries, Eden Hazard hobbled off with an injury after a challenge from Vardy. Chelsea, which won the Premier League by eight points and with three games to spare last season, has lost nine games so far. On the other side Leicester’s last league defeat came at home to Chelsea in April.
