Kolkata: East Bengal coach Trevor James Morgan arrived in Kolkata on Friday night. Morgan arrived late night from Perth via Singapore. The Englishman will start preparation for the forthcoming I League from December 19. East Bengal is scheduled to face Aizawl FC in the first match of I League on 7th January in Aizawl.

Morgan has been following the Indian Super League (ISL) matches back home. Asked to comment on Sunday’s final between Atletico de Kolkata and Kerala Blasters, Morgan did not hide his sentiment. “As a former assistant coach, I would love to see Blasters winning the ISL trophy,” said Morgan on his arrival at the airport.

East Bengal is due to start its I League campaign against Aizawl. Asked to comment about playing in a high altitude in the first match, Morgan didn’t seem to give too much importance. “If you want to become the champions, you have to be ready to win in any conditions. I think we will have enough time to prepare ourselves.”

Asked to comment about the foreigners, Morgan left it on the club officials. “We have to play with whoever is in the side. I am told that the officials are in talks with few foreign players.”

Morgan’s support stuff Simon Maltby and Warren hackett will join within the next few days. Simon will join on Sunday and Warren Hackett will arrive on 28th December. According to Trevor there is no plan of conducting any 15 days camp with the team. He will assess the situation and decide accordingly.

East Bengal’s new recruit Haitian Wedson who will play as withdrawal forward will arrive in Kolkata on 17th December. Another foreigner Ivan Bukeneya who signed for the club as a defender will arrive late as his visa formalities are under process.

Under the Englishman’s stint from 2010-2013, East Bengal had a fruitful season winning the Federation Cup in 2010, the IFA Shield, and the next season they finished I-League runners-up behind Dempo.

Morgan also had some other memorable moments helping the team to their maiden AFC Cup semi-final in 2013.
