Kolkata: Durbar Sporting beat Belgharia Athletics Club by 8-7 in the sudden death to become the Champion of Sailen Manna U-14 Football Tournament, which was organized by Kolkata Veteran Sports Club on Sunday. The match ended in a goalless draw in the scheduled time. Former footballers like Chuni Goswami, Nikhil Nandi, Shyam Thapa and Justice Shyamal Sen were present in this grand occasion to present the Champion and Runners up Trophy to the respective teams.

Before the final an exhibition match was played at the Howrah Municipal Stadium. In this match Bodru Banerjee XI beat Howrah Mayor XI by 2-0. Mohammed Shadik and Hossain Mustafi scored for the winning team. Except Chuni Goswami, Badru Banerjee, Nikhil Nandi other renowned footballers like Mrityunjoy Banerjee, Shyam Thapa and Chandan Banerjee were present to watch the tournament. State Minister Arup Roy, Mayor of Howrah, Dr. Rathin Banerjee, Justice Shyamal Sen, Padma Shri Bimal Roy and the Commissioner of Howrah Police Shri D.P Singh were also present in this grand occasion. Singh also played for Howrah Mayor XI in the exhibition match.

Former Fooballer Chuni Goswami was very happy about this initiative.” These kids are the future of Indian football. I want to urge everyone to organize these kinds of tournaments regularly. I am very happy to be here between these kids,” said Chuni.

Badru Banerjee said the same during the prize distribution ceremony.
