XtraTime Web Desk - Even when there was a slightest chance to win or even draw the game, Jimmy Anderson's swing literally destroyed India's middle order and things from there went just south for India.

India had to chase a mammoth total of 420 runs and they lost the wicket of Rohit Sharma early on. Pujara was dismissed as well by Jack Leach early on. Gill and Kohli looked set and that's when Joe Root handed the ball to the 38 year old Jimmy Anderson.

He took back to back wickets of Shubman Gill and Ajinkya Rahane and set India into back foot. Both Gill and Rahane was dismissed by similar kind of inswingers and both the times the ball went through between bat and pad. Gill was dismissed at 50 and Rahane couldn't open his account.

Captain Virat Kohli was fighting along with Rishabh Pant but to his horror, Anderson dismissed Pant and India recieved a massive blow. The only thing captain Kohli probably was expecting at that point was a draw.

Bess dismissed Sundar while Leach dismissed Ashwin and Nadeem and the final nail to coffin was planted by Ben Stokes when he dismissed King Kohli for 72 runs. Jofra Archer knocked Bumrah out at 4 and India lost the first test by 227 runs.

Virat Kohli lost 4 of his last test as captain. 2 against New Zealand, one against Australia and now against England. Needs needs to win at least two and lose none to qualify for the World Test Championship final at Lords.
