Argentine legend Diego Maradona sparks another controversy, as the maestro stated that he was ‘ashamed’ to see such performance from his country in the recently concluded World Cup.

Maradona was present for each of his country’s fixtures, as Jorge Sampaoli’s side struggled to get out of Group D.

The former World Cup winner often cut an animated figure in the stands and drew plenty of attention upon himself, and has now admitted the efforts of the team simply weren’t up to scratch.

‘I was ashamed,’ Maradona said following the conclusion of the tournament, as report the Sun.

‘It was very sad seeing the Argentina team’s aimless wandering.’

A late victory over Nigeria, including a sublime goal from Messi, saw Argentina make the latter stages of the competition.

At the first hurdle of the knock-out rounds Sampaoli’s side were downed by eventual winners France, as rumours soon emerged of infighting within the camp and the manager relinquishing the decision making to his top players.
