Xtra Time Web Desk: Debutant Shivam justified his selection as he took 4/22 to help India clinch a victory by 2 runs against Sri Lanka in the first T20I at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday. Batting first India posted 162/5. In reply Sri Lanka were all out for 160 runs. Needing 13 runs off the last 6 balls, Chamika Karunaratne could only manage 11 runs off Axar Patel’s final over.

Umran Malik (2/27) and Harshal Patel (2/41) too made useful contributions with the ball. Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka top-scored with 45 off 27 balls.

Earlier, Deepak Hooda smashed an unbeaten 41 while Axar Patel helped scored 20-ball 31 to help India post 162/5. Put into bat the Indian team got off to a flying start as Ishan Kishan slammed 17 runs in the very first over.

Maheesh Theekshana brought Sri Lanka back in the game by dismissing debutant Shubman Gill. India lost new vice-captain Suryakumar Yadav cheaply as well. Soon, India went down to 46/3 with Sanju Samson also departing cheaply.
