David Warner is the frontrunner to replace injured Rishabh Pant as captain of Delhi Capitals | IPL 2023

Xtra Time Web Desk: It is confirmed now that Delhi Capitals will have a new captain for IPL 2023 as Rishabh Pant is very likely to miss the upcoming season. Pant met with an accident on December 30 and is set to stay off the field for at least 6 months.

According to reliable sources Delhi Capitals management is mulling handing over the charge to David Warner. The top hierarchy in DC is likely to have a word with Warner very soon. The decision will be taken very soon when Parth Jindal arrives in India after a vacation. Former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly, who was recently appointed as the Director of Cricket will also be consulted along with Head Coach Ricky Ponting before arriving at a decision. But as of now David Warner looks to be the frontrunner to take over as Delhi Capitals captain.

Warner has successfully captained Sunrisers Hyderabad to an IPL title win in 2016. He has 35 wins in 69 matches as captain in the T20 league. The left hander has also captained Australia in ODIs and T20Is. He has been Australia’s Test vice-captain as well. The veteran batsman has a wealth of experience when it comes to captaincy and seems to be a frontrunner to take over the job.

Pant was appointed as the captain by the Delhi-based franchise ahead of the 2021 season. Under his leadership, DC finished as table-toppers in the league stages but failed to make it to the final, losing to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Qualifier 2.
