XtraTime Web Desk: After all the controversies in the last few days, MS Dhoni wore a different pair of wicket-keeping gloves against the Aussies at The Oval after the ICC denied him permission to sport the army insignia on his gloves in World Cup 2019.
A huge controversy had erupted after the ICC asked BCCI to get MS Dhoni to remove the army crest from his gloves. Fans in India were furious and the BCCI even wrote a letter to the world governing body seeking permission for MS Dhoni to continue wearing his gloves with the Balidan badge on them.
However, the ICC said Dhoni could not be allowed to don the army badge on his gloves and the BCCI decided not to contest the ruling.
MS Dhoni was seen sporting the Balidan badge during India’s World Cup 2019 opener against South Africa in Southampton on June 5. 4 days later, he wore a different pair of gloves without the Balidan badge.
India cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar said rules are in place because they are meant to be followed. He said it did not matter what MS Dhoni wore on his gloves as long as he continued to effect those quick stumpings and take those brilliant catches.
Former India football captain Baichung Bhutia said MS Dhoni’s gesture was heartwarming but he said ICC rules needed to be followed. However, S Sreesanth reckoned the ICC should apologise to India and MS Dhoni for dictating terms to the world’s richest cricketing nation.
