Harry Brook Creates History as He Becomes First Captain From a Full Member Nation to Hit Two T20i Tons in a Year

XtraTime Webdesk: English batter Harry Brook created history yesterday by becoming the first captain(of a full member team) to score two T20I centures in the same calendar year. He achieved this milestone against Sri Lanka with his unbeaten 114 . The Lankan bowling unit were no match against Brook's batting skills. His power hitting and inventive shot-making overwhelmed the Islanders and gave them no room to come back.

This century of his puts him in elite company. As said above, he becomes the only captain from a full member nation to score multiple centuries in International T20s. Ricky Ponting(as the captain of Australia)scored seven test centuries in 2006 while Virat Kohli, as the captain of India, put up six ODI centuries in two consecutive years(2017 and 2018).

In T20Is, Brook now stands alone with two centuries in 2026. The batter also climbed into an exclusive list as he became the third player to score 2 or more T20I centuries as a captain. Brook is only surpassed by Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam, who have scored 3 T20I centuries as captain of their sides.

Brook’s record-breaking innings was the centrepiece of an extraordinary batting display from England. The hosts raced to 90/1 during the powerplay before finishing on 254/4, leaving Sri Lanka with an enormous target to chase.

The visitors struggled to build momentum in the reply and were eventually bowled out for 135. Sonny Baker was among England’s leading performers with the ball, claiming three wickets for just 12 runs.

The 119-run victory gave England a 1-0 lead in the three-match T20I series and extended their winning streak against Sri Lanka in men’s T20Is. For Brook, however, the night belonged to the records as much as the result. His unbeaten 114 not only produced a commanding victory but also strengthened his growing reputation as one of England’s most prolific T20I batters.
