Cricket Australia name Virat Kohli as the captain of World XI, leave out Rohit Sharma

Xtra Time Web Desk: Cricket Australia on Monday named a World XI based on the performances of the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. Star India batter Virat Kohli, who is currently the top run scorer in the tournament with 591 runs has been named as the captain. It was surprising to see Team India captain Rohit Sharma’s name missing in the squad. The Indian captain has done exceptionally well both with the bat and as well as a captain. The Men in Blue are the only undefeated side in the competition with 9 wins out of 9. David Warner, who has scored (499 runs) less runs than Rohit (503 runs) has found a place in the side. The left hander has been named as an opener along with South Africa’s Quinton de Kock who has scored 591 runs runs from 9 games.

Another shocking exclusion was KL Rahul ahead of Aiden Markram at number 5.

In the bowling department though three Indians feature in the eleven including the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah.

Here is the World XI side picked by Cricket Australia:

Quinton De Kock (WK) (591 runs)

David Warner (499 runs)

Virat Kohli (C) (594 runs and 1 wicket)
