XtraTime Web Desk: Former Ranji Trophy winning Bengal cricketer Sagarmoy Sen Sharma has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been shifted to a superspeciality hospital on Eastern Metropolitan Bypass after being sent to a quarantine centre in Rajarhat. Sagarmoy’s wife was also detected Covid-19 positive few weeks back.

This is the first instance of a first class cricketer in the country being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. The left arm medium pacer was part of the 1989-90 Ranji Trophy winning Bengal squad. He did not play in the final though against Delhi at the Eden Gardens.

In his 47 first class matches, Sensharma has picked 149 wickets with the best of 6/33. He was a regular member of the Bengal and East Zone squad from 1987-1997.

Confirming the news, Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) has decided to send all the belongings of the senior selector lying in the association to his house. The Association has alerted all its players, coaches, support staffs not to get panicked in this situation. It is also learnt that CAB will soon come up with a list of guidelines for everyone concerned during this pandemic.
Some of the guidelines include - every cricketer needs to carry their own kits for training and no one will be allowed to use other’s kit. There are no plans to hold training together until the time the situation improves. Training schedule will be in groups. The players cannot change their training jerseys in the dressing room once they finish training.
