Copa America 2024 draw: Defending champions Argentina and runners Chile in the same group

Xtra Time Web Desk: Defending champions Argentina will kick off next year’s Copa América on June 20 in Atlanta against the winner of a Canada versus Trinidad and Tobago playoff. Lionel Messi and co are clubbed in Group A along with Peru, Chile and Concacaf 5 qualifier. Group B consists of Mexico, Equador, Venezuela and Jamaica. Hosts USA are placed in Group C along with Uruguay, Panama, and Bolivia. Latin American giants Brazil is in Group D with Colombia, Paraguay and Concacaf 6 qualifier.

Hosts USA will begin its campaign against Bolivia three days later in Arlington, Texas. Argentina faces Chile on June 25 in East Rutherford, New Jersey, in a rematch of the 2016 final, and concludes Group A against Peru on June 29 in Miami Gardens, Florida, the site of the final on July 14.

The U.S. is set to play Panama in Atlanta on June 27 and wraps up Group C against Uruguay in Kansas City, Missouri, on July 1. Brazil, heading Group D, will play the Costa Rica-Honduras playoff winner in Inglewood, California, on June 24, Paraguay in Las Vegas on June 28, and Colombia in Santa Clara, California, on July 2.

Mexico, seeded in Group B, will face Jamaica in Houston on June 22, Venezuela in Inglewood on June 26, and Ecuador in Glendale, Arizona, on June 30. The top two teams from each group will advance to the quarterfinals.

Argentina, Uruguay, and Brazil have impressive Copa América records, with each winning the tournament 15, 15, and 9 times, respectively. The tournament was moved to the U.S. and expanded to include six additional countries. The Copa América will use Puma balls, and the mascot Capitán was introduced at the draw.
