Xtra Time Web Desk: Hosts Brazil continued its dominance in Copa America 2021 as they thrashed Peru 4-0 in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday night. The Selecao continued their perfect start in the tournament with six points from two games. Alex Sandro (12’), Neymar Jr. (68’), Everton Robeiro (89’) and Richarlison (90+3’) were on target for Brazil.

The hosts took an early lead as Everton’s cross from the left skimmed off a Peru defender head and landed at the feet of Gabriel Jesus at the back post. The Manchester City forward passed the ball to an unmarked Alex Sandro who shot home from six yards. Sandro got another opportunity to add to his tally towards the end of first half but his shot went over.

Brazil continued to create the better chances after half time as right back Danilo’s volley from the edge of the area missed the target. At the hour mark the referee awarded Brazil a penalty as Neymar was brought down inside the box by Renato Tapia. But the decision was reversed after VAR showed it was a fair tackle.

Neymar didn’t have to wait long for his chance to score, as he was on target in the 68th minute. Fred played the ball to the Paris Saint Germain striker, who turned quickly to fire low past goalkeeper Pedro Gallese from 20 yards.

The Latin American giants added a third goal with a minute from time as Richarlison fed another substitute Everton Ribeiro to tap home from six yards out. Richarlison himself was on the scoresheet with a cameo in stoppage time.
