Controversy surrounding Rinku Singh dismissal: KKR batter forgets to signal review in time

Xtra Time Web Desk: Was Kolkata Knight Rider’s Rinku Singh justified appealing to the umpires after he was given out during the IPL game against Sunrisers Hyderabad at Pune on Saturday night? Rinku was timed out as he missed the stipulated time frame for signalling a review. Both Rinku and Sam Billings were seen chatting with the on-field umpires KN Ananthapadmanabhan and Anil Chaudhary but without any luck.

The incident took place in the third ball of 11th over bowled by Sunrisers’ T Natarajan. The left arm medium pacer bowled an in swinging yorker that saw crashing into the pads of Rinku Singh. Natarajan immediately appeals for lbw. On field umpire Ananthapadmanabhan gave it out rather belatedly after giving it a good thought. Rinku and Billings got together and Rinku belatedly asks for a review of the on-field out decision. Rinku was timed out. He hangs around in the middle for a bit before dragging himself off the field.

It looked like Billings had initially signalled for a review. KKR Head Coach Brendon McCullum was seen having a word with the fourth umpire at the boundary.

The rule is a player is given 15 seconds to make up his mind if he wants to use the option or not. Rinku, who was trapped plumb in front by Natarajan, didn’t signal for the review, resulting in umpire Anil Kumar Chaudhary denying him the opportunity to challenge the decision.
