Commonwealth Games 2022: Who will be Team India’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony?

Xtra Time Web Desk: With star India athlete Neeraj Chopra not available for the upcoming Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham, the big question now is who will be the flag bearer for the opening ceremony on July 29. Neeraj sustained an injury at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Oregon on Sunday. He made the country proud by winning silver at the World Athletics Championships. He was the frontrunner to be the flag bearer.

Neeraj was also the reigning champion in the Commonwealth Games having won the gold in 2018 at Gold Coast. The 24-year-old was also the flag-bearer during the 2018 Asian Games at Jakarta and it was expected that the IOA will once again name the athlete as the flag-bearer at Birmingham. But the latest development will make the Indian Olympic Association to rethink as there are several options.

Two-time Olympic medallist PV Sindhu is now the frontrunner to be the flag bearer for the Opening Ceremony. It is to be noted that Sindhu was the flag-bearer at the opening ceremony of the 2018 Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast.

Apart from Sindhu other names like Tokyo Olympic Silver medalist’s wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya, weightlifter Mirabai Chanu and boxer Lovlina Borgohain who won the Tokyo Olympic Bronze medal also have a chance to be selected as the flag-bearer.
