Commonwealth Games 2022: Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra to miss Games due to injury

Xtra Time Web Desk: In what comes as a real big setback for the Indian contingent, Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra will not be able to participate at the 2022 Commonwealth Games due to an injury he sustained at the recently concluded World Athletics Championships in Oregon on Sunday. Neeraj has already communicated the his unavailability for the CWG 2022 to Indian Olympic Association general secretary Rajiv Mehta. The news was broken by noted journalist Boria Majumdar. Neeraj scripted history by becoming the first Indian athlete to win a silver at World Athletics Championships. He also ended 19-year-long wait for a second medal by at the World Championships. Former long jumper Anju Bobby George won a bronze for India in the World Athletics Championships in Paris.

Neeraj, who started his season only last month is having a golden run. He has broken the national record twice in three competitions this year. He threw a personal best of 89.94m at the Stockholm Diamond League. Earlier he had set the new-record at the Paavo Nurmi Games in Finland in his season-opener.
