Commonwealth Games 2022 Day 9: Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat, Naveen Kumar win gold in wrestling; Bhavina Patel win gold in Para TT

Xtra Time Web Desk: It was the best day for Team India in terms of medal wins on Day 9 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. The wrestlers stole the show with Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat, Naveen Kumar all bagging gold in their respective events. Para athlete Bhavina Patel also won gold in table tennis. The wrestlers also won three silvers and seven bronze medals to make it to a total of 14 medals. Each and every member of the Indian wrestling contingent bagged a medal at the CWG 2022.                      

In fact, this was the best ever show for Indian Wrestling in the history of the Commonwealth Games s it finished with six gold medals, breaking the five-gold medal won at Gold Coast 2018. 

Ravi Dahiya, Vinesh Phogat and Naveen Kumar won gold in Men’s 57 kg, Women’s 53 kg and Men’s 74 kg categories respectively. Apart from them, three other wrestlers, Deepak Nehra, Pooja Gehlot and Pooja Sihag won bronze medals. 

Naveen Kumar beat Muhammad Sharif of Pakistan in Wrestling: 74 kg Men’s Freestyle to win the third Wrestling Gold Medal of the day. Ravi Kumar Dahiya beat Nigeria‘s Ebikewenimo Welson on technical superiority to win the Gold in Men’s Freestyle 57 kg wrestling.

Bhavina wins the Gold Medal Match 2-0 to secure the first gold in Para Table Tennis at the 2022 Commonwealth Games.

The highlight of the day was Priyanka Goswami winning a historic silver in the 10km Race Walk in 43:38.00 seconds. Avinash Sable won silver in 3000m steeplechase with a Personal Best and National Record of 8:11.20, just behind Abraham Kibiwot of Kenya, who finishes with 8:11.15
