CFL 2018: Kromah spoils the party, as Mohun Bagan drops first points in the league this season

Former Mohun Bagan foreigner Ansumana Kromah snatches the first points of the Green and Maroon brigade in the Calcutta Football League, as Biswajit Bhattacharya’s Peerless SC shares a 1-1 draw against Shankarlal Chakraborty’s Mohun Bagan at the Mohun Bagan Ground today. It was Bagan’s Henry Kisekka who gave the lead to the Mariners in the 72nd minute of the game, but Kromah spoiled the party at the closing minutes of the game.

Mohun Bagan played out a goal-less first half, as the Mariners failed to break the deadlock in the first 45 minutes. Biswajit Bhattacharya’s Peerless fought hard with the firepower they had in the form of Ansumana Kromah, Narohari Sreshtha, Pankaj Moula and a few really talented youngsters like Lakshmikanta Mandi. Dipanda Dicka came the closest to give Bagan the lead in the 42nd minute of the game, but Peerless goalkeeper Sandip came to the rescue.

Bagan coach brought in three changes in the form of Tirthankar Sarkar, Mehtab Hossain and Moinuddin to change things. In the 72nd minute, Abhishek Ambekar delivered a brilliant cross from the left and Henry Kisekka used his height to a good effect to slot it in to give Mariners a 1-0 lead.

he moment the Bagan fans started thinking of securing three more points, it was Bagan’s former forward Kromah who scored a superb goal in the 91st minute to save his team from the jaws of defeat. The result will no doubt make it an open league from now on as East Bengal, with another win will be level on points with the arch-rivals.
