CFL 2018: East Bengal pulled off a remarkable win from the jaws of defeat before the derby

Quess East Bengal comes from behind and pulled off a sensational late win over George Telegraph to register a morale-boosting win before the Kolkata derby. Koushik Sarkar, who striving for a start for the last three years in East Bengal colours, came out to be the match winner on his first outing of this season. It was Morgan who gave the lead to George against the run of play in the second half but first Mehtab Singh and then Koushik scored two amazing late goal to steal a win from the jaws of defeat.

East Bengal got a series of opportunities throughout the game but unfortunately on two occasions the efforts came off the woodwork and despite getting the open net, Mehtab Singh failed to put the ball at the back of the net in the first half. In numerous occasions the efforts went wide.

Against the run of play it was George’s foreign forward Justice Morgan who gave the lead to George Telegraph in the 69th minute with a sublime finish. The entire gallery was there in pin-drop silence.

East Bengal started coming with a new vigor after conceding the goal and started coming on the opposition with a lot of determination. In the 75th minute Mehtab Singh scored a brilliant goal, as Mahmoud Al Amna delivered a great free kick and Mehtab did the rest with a superb header.

Right when the gallery was getting anxious, Koushik Sarkar came out like a Phoenix bird and fired a long-ranger. The ball dropped in front of George goalkeeper Bubai and rolled back into the net after the initial save.

The win puts East Bengal level on points with Mohun Bagan but nthe Mariners will remain on top for scoring more goals in the league despite same goal difference.
