CFL 2018: East Bengal ends their campaign with a win over FCI

Kolkata:
A solitary goal by Jobby Justin in the first half against FCI, secured a victory for Quess East Bengal in the Calcutta Football League today at the East Bengal Ground today. A very ordinary brand of football was waiting for a few East Bengal fans who went to watch the game despite getting derailed from the title race.

The Red and Gold brigade finally managed to maintain a clean-sheet after three matches where they conceded 6 goals. Costa Rican world cupper Johnny Acosta was rested today, as Kingshuk Debnath and Mehtab Singh started in the central defence.

It was Mahmoud Al Amna, who delivered a fine pass and Jobby made no mistake to slot it home to take the lead in the opening quarter of the first half.

Unfortunately, the supporters who turned up with a lot of expectation, were let down with some very disappointing football. Though Jobby’s header was saved from the goal-line in the first half and Chullova’s long-range effort went over after rattling the frame of the crossbar.

The second half was even more pathetic as the fans too got frustrated. Later, after the game, East Bengal coach Bastab Roy too admitted, “We played very poor football today. The defeat against Mohammedan was the big set back I believe.”
