CFL 2019: 5 Foreigners who challenged the foreigners of the Kolkata Giants

Suman Chakravorty: The Calcutta Football League Premier Division ‘A’ has been a pulsating contest so far with as many as six teams are chasing the title including Kolkata Giants East Bengal and Mohun Bagan. Hence, XtraTime.in highlights 5 foreigners who challenged the ‘big money’ forwards of East Bengal and Mohun Bagan.

Ansumana Kromah (Peerless)

The leading goalscorer of this season has already scored as many as 11 goals in eight games and has shown no signs of stopping the goal-fest. The Liberian goal-machine has already scored against East Bengal and Mohun Bagan and a hat-trick against Kalighat MS. He is the reason why Peerless is the firm favourites to win the title for the first time. An absolute game-changer on the field.

Bayi Kamo (Bhowanipore)

A lethal forward on the upfront. The African perhaps has already scored the best goal of the competition with 9 goals overall in the CFL. A genuine no.9 who has kept Shankarlal Chakraborty’s team in the hunt with some consistent performances. Kamo has been chasing his former Mohun Bagan striking partner Kromah from the first game. Like Kromah, he too scored a hat-trick in the league against New Barrackpore Rainbow AC. The goal which he scored against East Bengal at Kalyani, can easily be termed the best goal of this CFL so far.

Joel Sunday (George Telegraph)

Another terrific goal-poacher. The centre forward has already scored 5 goals in 6 games despite struggling with injury. Joel’s performance has been instrumental for George Telegraph to keep them in the chase for the title.

Varney Kallon (Peerless)

The Liberian defender had a wonderful last season with I-League side Neroca FC. The powerful defender has been an absolute rock in the defence for Peerless. He was also judged the Man Of The Match against East Bengal. As we call, “Forwards win you matches, defenders win you titles”, Kallon has been showing exactly that.

Mudde Musa (Mohammedan Sporting)

The former Gokulam Kerala FC midfielder has been outstanding in this CFL for Mohammedan Sporting despite their disappointing performances. The strikers lacked consistency, the defenders have been off-coloured, but Musa has been the leader who has inspired them on the heart of the midfield to keep them in the chase for title.
