Gopal Roy, Kalyani: East Bengal’s dream run in the Calcutta Football League finally comes to an end as they settled for a 2-2 draw against Mohammedan Sporting Club. This result has brought their arch-rivals Mohun Bagan back into the league as both the teams are on 19 points but East Bengal is holding the top spot for their goal-difference.

Though Mohun Bagan coach Shankarlal Chakraborty is only thinking about his team as they have to win their last two matches to become the champions.” We are not bothered about what East Bengal and Mohammedan Sporting Club is doing, my team has to win their remaining two matches and we are only focusing on that,” said Shankarlal.

On being asked whether this result has opened the League for both the side, Shankarlal added, “Yes the League is wide open now but we must have to win our remaining two matches.”

Mohammedan Sporting Club stopped the winning run of the defending champions East Bengal today. If Mohun Bagan can beat the Red and Gold Brigade in the Kolkata Derby they can become the CFL Champions after eight long years.” We are not thinking about Kolkata derby right now and my team is only focusing on the next match,” concluded Shankarlal.

Mohun Bagan official Debashish Dutta said,” We are at the same position where we were last night. The team has to win their remaining two matches and the team management is only focusing on that. If we cannot beat East Bengal in the derby we won’t get the league. Our primary focus is to win our next two matches at any cost.”

On the other hand  Mohun Bagan’s I-League winning coach Sanjoy Sen was released today from a private hospital. The Green and Maroon gaffer for I-League had to undergo a bypass surgery few days back.
