Image : XtraTime[/caption] Barasat : East Bengal fans should thank their British defender Calum Angus for a stellar performance in securing a hard fought victory against Tollygunge Agragami at Barasat Stadium today. The criticism-pricked British defender not only defended like a rock in the deep defence but also brilliantly headed a Mehtab Hossain corner on the 73rd minute of the game to give the much needed 3 points to the Red & Gold brigade.

It was a nail-biting contest as Ranjan Chowdhury's Tollygunge Agragami performed immaculately well throughout the game. East Bengal's first chance was wasted by Samad Ali Mullick as he failed to put the ball at the open net in the early minutes of the game. Tollygunge's Alfred Jaryan too tried his luck from distance but the ball came off the woodwork.
Players like Surabuddin Mullick, Raja Das and Alfred troubled the East Bengal defence throughout the game. Adeleja has failed to impress yet again as his dismal performance might be a cause of real concern in securing the historic 7th CFL trophy on a trot. The opposition coach Ranjan Chowdhury, who happens to be the former deputy of East Bengal boss Trevor Morgan, too got astonished to see Adeleja to play for East Bengal, he said,"I'm dumbfounded to see Adeleja to wear the Red & Gold jersey. Giant clubs like East Bengal and Mohun Bagan sign foreign forwards not to draw matches but to get significant contributions from them to win games. Adeleja is not the standard."
East Bengal introduced Do Dong Hyun for the last quarters but the Korean failed to find the back of the net. Though his confident runs created panic in the opposition defense.
Though the East Bengal boss defended his side by saying,"We have come up against a formidable side. I'm extremely pleased with my boys. They gave given everything they had and I'm happy to be the deserving winners in the end."
When asked about the goal drought of his forwards, Morgan got a bit agitated as he said,"Just because you are East Bengal, doesn't mean you will win every game! We have won 5 games on a trot and you are still criticizing! It's easy to criticise but I'm happy with my boys."
Calum Angus had a glorious game and that pleased Morgan as well. The East Bengal coach said,"I'm extremely happy for Calum. He received a lot of criticism but he answered the best way he could. He was phenomenal today!".
Samad Ali Mullick and Lalrindika Ralte glittered in phases but East Bengal should thank nobody but Angus with the way he led the team by an example today.
Before signing off, Tollygunge boss Ranjan Chowdhury too said some optimistic words,"Derby will seal the fate of the Calcutta Football League. Though I'm extremely disappointed with the performance of the Red & Gold brigade,East Bengal will start as favourites in the derby as they have more experienced players in the context of that match."
Irrespective of the result, Trevor Morgan should have to work a lot on his attacking front if he wants to clinch the title for a record 7th time on a trot. The blunt forward line will be enough to present a few sleepless nights to the East Bengal boss.
