Bundesliga: Bayern Munich extends lead on top with a 4-2 win over Leverkusen

XtraTime Web Desk: Bayern Munich extended their lead on top of Bundesliga with a crushing 4-2 win over Bayer Leverkusen. The German club is on course for an eight successive Bundesliga title. Bayern is now 10 points (70 points from 30 games) ahead of second placed Borussia Dortmund.

The Munich side came from a goal down to ease past hosts Bayer Leverkusen 4-2. The hosts got the lead through Lucas Alario in the 10th minute of the match, scoring from the first opportunity. Bayern recovered from the early shock and Kingsley Coman curled in the equaliser in the 28th minute before the visitors struck twice in three minutes to turn the game around. Leon Goretzka completed a sensational passing move in the 42nd minute and Serge Gnabry chipped the ball over keeper Lukas Hradecky on the stroke of halftime. Both teams went into the breather with the scoreline reading 3-1 in favour of Bayern.

Bundesliga top scorer Robert Lewandowski extended the lead for Bayern as he headed in Thomas Mueller’s 20th assist of the season to seal his side’s ninth straight win before a superb 89th-minute goal from 17-year-old Florian Wirtz cut the deficit for the hosts. Wirtz also became the youngest scorer in the history of Bundesliga.

It was a sweet revenge for Bayern Munich as they lost the home fixture against Bayer Leverkusen.
