Bumrah’s heroics goes in vain as India lose the first T20I against Australia

XtraTime Web Desk: Despite of a phenomenal spell by Jasprit Bumrah (3/16) India lost the first T20I by 3 wickets against Australia on the final ball of the match at VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam on Sunday. The Aussies needed 14 runs in the final over with three wickets in hand, but a poor show by Umesh with the ball cost Men in Blue the match. After this win Australia has taken a 1-0 lead in the two-match T20I series.

Earlier batting first India could only manage to score 126 runs for 7 in their allotted 20 overs on a pitch which was tough to bat on. KL Rahul top scored with 50 runs in 36 deliveries. Skipper Kohli scored 24 runs in 17 balls. It was MS Dhoni’s gritty knock of 29 runs which helped India to reach that total. In reply Australia lost two wickets in just 5 runs, but after that Glenn Maxwell played a magical knock of 56 runs in just 43 deliveries to take the visitors close to the win. Opener D Arcy Short too backed him well with 37 runs in 37 deliveries.

In the 19th over Bumrah took back to back wickets of Peter Handscomb & Nathan Coulter-Nile to help the home get back in the game. But due to Umesh’s poor show India lost the game on the final delivery of the match.
