File Pic[/caption] Internet Desk: The 71 people who lost their lives in the Brazil's Chapecoense calamity were recalled today as Brazil played Colombia in a friendly in Rio de Janeiro. As many as 71 balloons were released in remembrance of those who perished while the survivors of the air crash were also present at a ceremony before the game at the Olympic Stadium in Rio De Generio. Chapecoense custodian Jackson Follmann, Alan Ruschel, Neto and the journalist Rafael Hernandez all were present during the game and received a warm welcome. Thousands of fans used their mobile phones to light up the Olympic Stadium in Rio de Janeiro on Wednesday night. Brazil vs Colombia is usually a hotly anticipated South American derby but their intense rivalry was forgotten as both sets of players met with the survivors and took part in a ceremony of remembrance. It was an emotional occasion and one that aimed to raise money for the families of the victims of the LaMia flight 2933 crash on 28 Novemberlast year in Colombia. Only six people on the flight, which was carrying the Chapacoense team to their Sudamerican final, survived. It has been a difficult journey for all involved. Goalkeeper Follmann has been left in a wheelchair after having part of his leg amputated as a result of the crash. The other two players, Neto and Ruschel, have returned to training and hope to play again later this year. Brazilian midfieler Diego said he had been honoured to play in the match which finished 1-0 to Brazil courtesy of a Dudu goal before half-time. 'This was more than a game, I had the chance to be with Follmann and Neto, they are heroes,' he said. 'They are heroes and anything we can do to help them then we'll be there.' It could and should have been a packed house. It was impossible not to think back to December, when Atletico Nacional fans filled their stadium to the rafters in a display of solidarity in the wake of the Chapecoense tragedy. The contrast between that occasion and this was marked. With inputs from PTI.
