Kolkata : The battle between two brothers surrounding the Bengal Olympic Association election reached a new height on Thursday at the Annual General Meeting. In order to stop his younger brother Swapan Banerjee (Babun) , President Ajit Banerjee postponed the election citing it was according to the rules of the association. The BOA president appointed an election committee headed by Mr Paresh Mukherjee, who will oversee the election process on November 22.

Everyone in the maidan is aware that the two brothers of West Bengal chief minister do not get along well with each other. They both have their issues and their principles also are not the same. Recently Swapan submitted his nomination for the post of General Secretary of the association which was not taken well by his brother Ajit, who in turn nominated Chanadan Roy Chowdhury for the post for another term.

The election was supposed to take place during the Annual General Meeting of the Association held at the Khudiram Anushilan Kendra. But surprising all present at the meeting, the BOA president announced that the elections cannot be held since there is a need for a committee to oversee the election process.

A disappointed Swapan Banerjee claimed he was very upset to see his brother trying to stop him from holding the post. According to Swapan, “I was not expecting such kind of behaviour from my brother. He should have continued with the elections rather than postponing it to a later date.”

On the other hand, Mr Ajit Banerjee said,”A lot of people are claiming that it’s a battle between me and my brother Swapan. As a President, I cannot recommend my brother as the Secretary. He still need a lot of experience to run an association like the BOA. He is young and can become the General Secretary in the next term.”
