Xtra Time Web Desk: The Special General Meeting of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will take place on Saturday (May 29, 2021) to decide on the way forward for hosting the remaining matches of IPL 2021and ICC T20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the country in October. Although the meeting will be held virtually, but it is learnt that BCCI President Sourav Ganguly will travel to Mumbai to attend the all important meeting. Another key point that will come up for discussion is the re-start of domestic cricket season.

The most important agenda of the SGM is going to be the discussion on the fate of ICC T20 World Cup in India. The International Cricket Council (ICC) has its board meeting scheduled for June 01 & 02. So, whatever the decision BCCI takes, ICC board will evaluate it and take a final call on the marquee event. There were talks that if the COVID-19 situation in the country is not improved then the Indian cricket board might stage the tournament in UAE. BCCI, it is learnt wants to keep T20 World Cup in India and will decide on the way-forward on the same. The members will finalize their strategy to convince ICC to keep T20 World Cup in India.

Another important point for discussion that will come up in the SGM is how to organise the remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 in UAE.

The issue about the foreign cricketers availability in IPL 2021 Phase 2 will also come up for discussion. With England and Wales Cricket Board’s Director of Cricket (Men) Ashley Giles already making it very clear that ECB will not allow England cricketers to play in the IPL 2021 at the expense of national commitments.

With the Caribbean Premier League underway during that period, West Indian and some South African cricketers will also be unavailable for a week or so besides their quarantine period in the UAE. BCCI will need to arrange charter flights from St Kitts and Nevis to keep the entire contingent away from quarantine.

The SGM will also discuss about the rescheduling of bilateral series against South Africa and New Zealand at home.
