BCCI recommends the names of these cricketers for Arjuna award

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recommended the names of Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja for the Arjuna Award. The BCCI has also recommended the name of women cricketer Poonam Yadav.

All the three cricketers have been in terrific form for the Indian men’s team across formats. The trio are currently playing in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL 2019) and have also been selected to represent the country for the ICC Cricket World Cup starting next month in England and Wales.

Leg spinner Poonam Yadav has been a key member of the Indian women’s team in the limited overs format. She was very impressive in the recently concluded ODI and T20I series against England Women’s team at hime picking four and two wickets respectively. She has represented the country across all formats. Yadav has taken 63 wickets in ODI’s part from taking 74 wickets in T20I’s. She has so far played only one test match where she claimed 3 wickets.

Ravindra Jadeja is the senior most cricketer in the list of recommendations, having made his debut in 2009. Since then, he has played 41 Tests, 151 ODIs and 40 T20Is and has picked 192, 174 and 31 wickets along with making 1485, 2035 and 116 runs respectively. He has won the golden ball award at the ICC Champions Trophy 2013 in England.

Mohammad Shami made his debut for India in 2013 and has played 40 Tests, 63 ODIs and 7 T20Is, picking 144,113 and 8 wickets respectively. Bumrah, on the other hand, has 49 wickets from 10 Tests, 85 ODI wickets in 49 matches and 51 wickets in 42 T20Is for India.

The Arjuna Award is a prestigious honour bestowed by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India in order to recognize outstanding achievement by the sportspersons of the country.
