BCCI President Sourav Ganguly to state units: Options still open for IPL this year

Xtra Time Web Desk : The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly on Wednesday has communicated to all the state units that the board is exploring all options to stage the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year. The state units were communicated by the Board President following the ICC Board meeting. They were told that the Board is mulling at the option of conducting the cash rich league in empty stands, if situation demands. The BCCI will decide on the road ahead soon and inform the state units accordingly, so that they do the needful.

This is a significant development, following the ICC Board meeting on Wednesday. With no clarity on the T20 World Cup yet, there is a lot of speculation over the future of IPL, this year. The BCCI is optimistic about hosting the IPL in the country during the September-October window. The Board is also keeping the options open to stage the tournament abroad if the COVID-19 situation does not improve in the country. Boards like UAE and Sri Lanka have already expressed their willingness to stage the cash rich league.
