BCCI President Roger Binny, Secretary Jay Shah to meet Rohit and Dravid for Review Meeting

Xtra Time Web Desk: Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Roger Binny and Secretary Jay Shah will meet Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid and Captain Rohit Sharma (most likely video conference) on Sunday to discuss on the performance of Indian team in recently concluded T20 World Cup in Australia and ODI series defeat against Bangladesh. National Cricket Academy (NCA) Chief VVS Laxman & sacked selection committee chairman Chetan Sharma also has been called for Review Meeting

The meeting has been pending for very long now. BCCI had decided to conduct the review after India’s exit from the ICC T20 World CUP Semi-final. But owing to Bangladesh tour the meeting had to be postponed.

Coming back to the key points which are likely to be discussed on Sunday’s Review Meeting are:

Firstly, the review of India’s poor show in ICC T20 World Cup 2022 and loss against Bangladesh will be discussed in the meeting. The senior team under Rohit also failed to qualify for the Asia Cup 2022 final in Dubai. Captain Rohit Sharma and Head Coach Rahul Dravid will need to explain the reason for team’s failure.

Secondly, there will discussions on why there were so many injuries happening and how well they can be managed. The Board president Binny had himself raised concerns over workload management and the injuries to key players. As NCA chief, the former India batter will be asked to explain the causes for such injuries. The review of NCA Staff will also be done.

The third and perhaps the most important point is the BCCI hierarchy will seek the views of Rohit Sharma on the issue of having multiple captains in different formats. Hardik, who has been named as the captain for the upcoming T20I series against Sri Lanka is likely to replace Rohit in the shorter format. Rohit will continue to lead in ODIs and tests.

The fourth point to be discussed at the meeting will be on transition. Phasing out the seniors from the T20 format is also being talked about. BCCI will take views of everyone and the phase out procedure for the seniors will be formalized. Rohit, Virat, R.Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik, Mohd Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar who are in their mid 30’s are likely to be phased from T20 scheme in the next 12 months.

Finally, the topic of having specialized coaches across formats will also come up for discussion. There have been speculations that Rahul Dravid will only be the coach for test and ODI teams while a new coach will take over in T20 format.
