Barmy Army’s Simon Finch and his collaboration with Eric Clapton, Beyonce and Kanye West

Xtra Time Web Desk: Meet Simon Finch, Barmy Army’s trumpeter who is now in India to cheer Ben Stokes and his boys during the test series against India. Simon assumed the role from long-serving Barmy Army trumpeter Billy Cooper in 2020, has been resonating his tunes during the first test between India and England at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.

With a rich musical background, Finch is no stranger to the spotlight, having collaborated with some of the biggest names in entertainment. His trumpet has echoed alongside the likes of Liam Gallagher, Kanye West, Blur, Jay-Z, Beyonce, Paul Weller, Eric Clapton and more.

Stepping into the shoes of Cooper, Finch has embraced the crucial role of energizing England’s fervent cricket supporters, a contribution often acknowledged by the players who attribute the Barmy Army’s spirited cheers to their on-field morale. Despite the pressure of this role, Finch remains undaunted, drawing on his vast experience working with music icons.

Having been a vital part of the Barmy Army contingent during England’s tour to New Zealand and Ashes earlier, Finch encountered an unfortunate mishap involving his trumpet. Nonetheless, his resilient spirit and musical prowess continue to make him an indispensable figure in both the cricketing and musical realms, ensuring that the Barmy Army’s presence is felt and celebrated worldwide.
