Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat charged by police

Shahadat-HossainDhaka , December 30 : Bangladesh cricketer Shahadat Hossain and his wife have been charged physically torturing a 11 years old maid. He and his wife could face a jail term upto 14 years if  they are found guilty.

In September the girl filed a case against the pace bowler accusing him and his wife of physical abuse  and torture. The girl Mahfuza Akhter Happy was found in a Dhaka street with several injuries including a broken leg and black eye. Hossain who had played 38 tests and 51 ODIs for Bangladesh lodged a missing complaint of  her maid. Later Hossain surrendered himself to the police on October 5 after four weeks of run. Police also arrested his wife from his parents house.The couple will appear before the court on 12th January to face the charges under the country’s Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The 29 years old who last played against Pakistain in May has been suspended by the Bangladesh Cricket Board for an unknown period.

The girl told the media that the couple used to beat her with sticks and utensils. Police said that the girl’s one hand has been burnt by the couple. Hossain earlier alleged that it was a conspiracy to malign his career. He and his wife fled from their house after police raided their house following the girl’s complain.
