Untitled Kolkata: Former Mohun Bagan legend Jose Ramires Barreto on Monday doubt  Sanjay Sen’s tactics in the later stages of I League. The Brazilian playmaker, arguably the best foreign player to play in Indian soil also held responsible the fatigue of the players and schedule. In a chat with xtratime.in correspondent Debasis Sen from his Mumbai residence, Barreto points out five main reasons for the Mariners not winning the second I League. Fatigue and schedule: Mohun Bagan players have been playing non-stop football and the players looked jaded towards the business end of the tournament. Both Mohun Bagan and Bengaluru FC had to play the AFC Cup and I League matches simultaneously. Aizawl FC players looked comparatively fresh during the later stages of I League. Away records: Both Aizawl FC and Mohun Bagan maintained a hundred percent record at home. But Aizawl FC had more wins than the Mariners. Khalid Jamil’s men registered 3 wins (DSK Shivajians, Churchill, Mumbai FC) compared to Mohun Bagan’s two wins (Chennai City FC, Minerva Punjab FC). Mariners failed to win on more occasion (5 draws) than Aizawl FC (3 draws). Tactics of Sanjay Sen: Mohun Bagan coach Sanjay Sen could have put in a little bit more effort in the planning and management of the season. It could have helped the players to achieve top performance .The officials gave him the best available squad. But his rotation of the players was at times bizarre. A player’s rhythm can get affected if he had to switch on and off frequently. Ideally the Bagan coach could have planned in such a way so as to give his players enough rest so that they remained a lot fresh towards the end of the season. Form of the foreigners: Expected more leadership from Eduardo in the defence. Duffy did not have a good debut season for Mohun Bagan. He missed easy scoring opportunities at crucial moment (his miss in the early minutes in the match against Aizawl FC proved costly). Sony Norde had to carry a lot of burden on his shoulders. Responsibility lies with the coach: Sanjay Sen cannot shy away from the responsibilities. As a coach he should take the moral responsibility for the failure in I League. What matters for teams like Mohun Bagan and East Bengal is to win trophies and he (Sanjay Sen) has let down the Bagan supporters for consecutive two seasons now. A lack of leadership in the team was once again a problem for the Mariners as they completely relied on the coach.
