Xtra Time Web Desk: The Men’s Selection Committee has named fast bowler Avesh Khan as a replacement for Md. Shami for the second Test against South Africa to be played from 3rd-7th January 2024 in Cape Town. The question that needs to be asked why was he not included in the squad once Shami was ruled out due to an ankle injury. Maybe the team management was confident of Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Kirishna doing the job in the Boxing Day Test. Both performed below par as they failed to utilise the conditions and hit the right line and length.

Shami's absence, opens the door for Avesh Khan to showcase his skills and contribute to the team's success on the challenging South African soil. Avesh, known for his pace and ability to generate bounce, has been a promising prospect in the Indian cricketing landscape. His selection reflects the committee's confidence in his capabilities and highlights the depth of talent within the squad. Bengal fast bowler Mukesh Kumar is also in the test squad. Perhaps he can also be tried in the second test against Proteas.

As the team gears up for the second Test, Avesh Khan will join forces with the existing lineup to take on the Proteas in what promises to be a fiercely contested match. The Men's Selection Committee's decision underscores the importance of adaptability and depth in the squad, factors crucial for success in international cricket. All eyes will be on Avesh Khan as he steps into the shoes of Shami, as the visitors aim to level the two match test series.
